Senator Hillary Clinton, a front runner for the Democratic presidential
nomination, is an incredible fund raiser and has a popular
former president for a spouse (although former President Clinton
can sometimes go his own way, as he did with his lobbying
on the Dubai ports security deal). If nominated, she would
be the first woman to represent a major political party in
a
U.S.
presidential election. If elected president, she would of
course be the first woman to lead the nation—which would
finally put the U.S.
in the same enlightened league as India,
Israel,
Great Britain,
and Chile,
as well as countless other nations.
Hillary
Clinton has chart strengths which show the potential to be
president, but we need to keep in mind that these are just
potentialities (see horoscope). It
will be Clinton’s
inter-action with the nation and with events “on the
ground” that will determine how far she goes in the
election cycle. She has a Mars-Saturn-Pluto conjunction in
Leo and a powerful planetary line-up in Scorpio. First and
foremost, however, her Scorpio Mercury went stationary retrograde
just a few hours before she was born. A planet which is
stationary at birth has enormous power in the horoscope and
in the life of the individual. Clinton’s
stationary Mercury happens to be squaring her Saturn within
one minute of a degree. It is the closest aspect in her horoscope,
including all the minor aspects.
The
Mercury-Saturn square can indicate a person of tremendous
intellectual gifts, as well as someone who feels that he or
she is always being tested when expressing an opinion. They
can feel impelled to prove themselves (some of these insights
into the Mercury-Saturn square are taken from Sue
Tompkins’ book, Aspects
in Astrology). Mercury-Saturn square individuals tend
to take themselves and their thoughts very seriously, becoming
their own best authority on any issue. There is also a Virgoan
mental exactitude with this aspect. Persons with a Mercury-Saturn
square (such as Maya Angelou) are often great communicators,
although they must often work hard to achieve this.
On
the day of the 2008 election, transiting Mars will be conjuncting
Clinton’s
stationary natal Mercury exactly—and therefore squaring
her Saturn. If she is nominated, will this powerful tension
propel her all the way to an electoral victory—or will
a square between the two traditional malefics of the zodiac
deny her victory? Because the issues of concern to the nation
in 2008 are likely to be war and security, Mars and Saturn
could be helpful. A further answer may lie in how Clinton
develops her relationship with the nation and for that we
need to look at a composite horoscope (scroll down to see
composite horoscope for Hillary Clinton and the U.S.).
Because
Clinton’s
birth time is not known for certain, we do not know the exact
degree of her Moon or house cusps. However, even with allowance
for the Clinton/USA composite Moon being off by several degrees,
her composite horoscope pattern is striking.
The
composite mid-Pisces Moon opposes a stellium of five planets
in Virgo. The composite Moon signifies the emotional connection
a candidate is able to establish with the country. Composite
Uranus completes the picture with its square of the Virgo-Pisces
axis. Significantly,
Clinton’s composite
Jupiter-Saturn conjunction is squared by Uranus, showing the
candidate’s potential for disrupting the status quo.
Transits affect a composite chart just like
a natal chart. On election day, 2008, there will be an opposition
between Saturn and Uranus. The election day Saturn-Uranus
opposition will be hitting the Clinton/U.S. composite Jupiter-Saturn
conjunction and squaring the composite Uranus. Because the
election will be decided on Saturnine issues of security and
Uranus represents radical change, it is entirely possible
that Hillary Clinton could be elected president in 2008.
Whether
one is a Democrat or a Republican, a soccer mom or a NASCAR
dad, Hillary Clinton will doubtless be a powerful and polarizing
candidate. This composite horoscope vividly illustrates both
the concentrated power of her candidacy and its potential
resonance in the national psyche, as well as its potential
polarization.
