NASA Mission to Pluto

Here's the event horoscope for the launch of the New Horizons mission to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt: 1/19/2006, 2:00 PM, Cape Canaveral, Florida (time from the NASA website and news reports).

This is occurring just as Pluto's status as a planet is being reconsidered. The discovery of a new ice "planet," larger than Pluto, is generating scientific debate in the astronomy community about whether or not Pluto was correctly labeled as a planet. See some recent entries in my AstroFutureTrends Astrology Blog on this topic.

In the event chart for the New Horizons launch, note the Sun in the exploratory 9th house, along with Neptune. Uranus is the most elevated planet in the horoscope. Neptune squares the axis of Mars and Jupiter, forming a tight T-square--a blastoff into the vast unknown. Pluto is in the 7th house, in mutual reception with Jupiter. Pluto rules Scorpio, intercepted in the 6th house. With mundane or event astrology, though, houses and aspects are more important than signs. Saturn is in the 3rd house, indicating possible problems with communications. At least NASA did not launch during Mercury retrograde.
