The Pluto in Scorpio generation’s choice
of Halloween costumes veers toward the macabre
and gruesome. The Pluto in Sagittarius kids,
those trick-or-treaters who are younger than
9, are entirely different. The girls want
to be princesses. A recent New York Times
article points out how the princess
craze has grabbed the psyches of very young
girls.
Sagittarius is a fire sign often associated
with young royalty. People with either the
Sun or Ascendant in Sagittarius can often
come across as being quite regal and youthfully
proud. When the sign expresses generationally
through a Pluto transit, that quality begins
to show up in a cultural cohort.
As noted in the NY Times article,
the princess craze for girls is linked to
the current marketing of Cinderella as a rich
princess, ignoring her roots as an emotionally
abused child dressed in rags and sweeping
cinders from the fireplace. Sagittarius is
very good at seeing the “bright side”
of things (a trait which often makes them
quite popular as individuals).
The movie The Princess Diaries and its hit sequel,
both involving the story of an everyday klutzy
girl who becomes a princess, are also evidence
of this trend.
Halloween is a great time to spot Pluto
trends because people get to dress up in ways
that express something fundamental about their
psyches. This past Halloween, while Pluto
in Scorpio teens were costuming themselves
in Scream
masks, fake blood makeup, Dracula capes, and
retro punk outfits, costume companies reported
that Cinderella and princess costumes were
by far the most popular for younger girls.
