Astrology Forecast: George Bush's Year Ahead

Updated 5-20-2006

Note: Scroll to bottom of page to see President Bush's horoscope.

President Bush experienced a confluence of difficulties during the last week in October, 2005: his nominee for the Supreme Court, Harriet Miers, withdrew from consideration; his Vice President’s Chief of Staff was indicted and resigned; and the U.S. death toll in the Iraq War passed the 2,000 milestone.

Since then, President Bush’s troubles have only multiplied. A recent news poll revealed that only 32% of voters approve of the way he is handling his job. His integrity, previously one of his strongest qualities in the eyes of many voters, is now being questioned. His top political aide Karl Rove continues to be investigated by a special prosecutor.

Saturn and Bush's Horoscope

Saturn, the planet of lessons learned and lessons unheeded, is working its way through a crucial part of Bush’s horoscope.

Bush’s birth data, including birth time, is rated AA by Lois Rodden’s AstroDataBank, which gives his Ascendant credibility (that is, an accurate Ascendant degree is dependent on an accurate birth time—see Bush's horoscope below). Saturn just crossed over Bush’s Ascendant and is hitting his Mercury and Pluto. In astrological keyword shorthand, his image (Ascendant), communication (Mercury), and power (Pluto) are all dimmed by Saturn’s shadow.

One Saturday evening—on September 4, 1976, to be exact—private citizen George Bush was pulled over while driving because a state trooper observed Bush's car swerving onto the shoulder, then back onto the road. Bush failed a road sobriety test, pled guilty, was fined, and had his driver's license suspended. Bush was then thirty years old. (This was publicly revealed during the 2000 presidential election).

At the time of his drunk driving arrest, transiting Saturn was exactly where it is right now. It had just crossed over Bush’s Ascendant and was hitting his Mercury-Pluto conjunction.

The point of this is not that Bush did something wrong or scandalous. Many of us have our own youthful indiscretions. The point of looking at Bush’s past is that Saturn is a cyclical planet which, as many astrologers have pointed out, can be linked to life’s seminal events and stages. The events of 1976 were doubtless a low point in young George Bush’s life. However, back then he was just George Bush and not the President. He could, as most of us would also want to do, keep the embarrassing facts to himself. Now, as President, his Saturn transits are very public.

It’s not over yet. Bush’s 1st house Leo Venus, a true Golden Boy benefic for him, is within 3° of the midpoint of his bundle pattern. All his planets fall within a highly focused trine. When Saturn hits this midpoint in 2006, it will also hit Venus. This will occur just before the 2006 midterm elections, so Bush’s difficult week in October is likely to stretch into a difficult political year. (For those with an interest in Vedic astrology: mid-2006 will also mark the beginning of Bush’s Mercury mahadasa after a 19 year Saturn mahadasa).

The one saving grace in this upcoming Saturn transit to the midpoint is that because Bush’s planets are in a tight trine pattern, the midpoint forms a sextile to the two points of the trine (Jupiter trines Uranus with a 1° orb of aspect). Noted astrologer Noel Tyl characterizes Saturn at the midpoint of Jupiter-Uranus as follows: “The introduction of patience and practicality to boundless self-projection; temperance over excess.” When Saturn hits the midpoint in late 2006, it will form transiting sextiles to Jupiter and Uranus, so there is an opportunity for change without crisis if Bush is willing to adjust his course. The downside is that Saturn will be hitting Bush’s very benefic 1st house Venus, severely tarnishing the golden sheen that has burnished his image.

Saturn and the Midterm Elections

Saturn, at 23° Leo, will be opposing the U.S. Moon at the time of the election. The U.S. Moon is between 22° and 27° Aquarius, depending on which July 4, 1776, horoscope one uses. Saturn opposing the Moon does not bode well for the incumbent party, the Republicans. Why? The Aquarian Moon symbolizes that which nurtures the nation—namely freedom to roam, wide open spaces, the big sky, equality, openness, etc. With Saturn casting an oppositional shadow, voters will be restive and anxious to assert the freedom they do have: to vote for a change in direction.

Bush's Solar Arc Horoscope

Solar arc directions are another way of looking ahead. With solar arc directions, each planet is advanced one degree for each year of life. This imbues the horoscope with the central symbolism of the Sun, which in secondary progression is advanced a degree per year. Solar arcs are a proven method of forecasting.

What does President Bush’s solar arc directed horoscope look like on election day—November 7, 2006—when compared with his natal horoscope? (see a bi-wheel chart below)

First and foremost, Bush’s solar arc destiny-charged Uranus-North Node conjunction will be one degree from the exact midpoint (18° Leo) of his Jupiter-Uranus trine. The Jupiter-Uranus trine, a highly sensitive aspect in Bush's horoscope, forms the two points holding together his bundle pattern. Previous planetary transits to this midpoint have coincided with crucial events in Bush’s life:

·      He first met his wife when Saturn was crossing his Jupiter-Uranus midpoint (which is also close to his Venus).

  • His twin daughters were born when solar arc Sun hit the Jupiter-Uranus midpoint.
  • When Bush’s father initiated the first Gulf War, Pluto in Scorpio was going through the current President Bush’s 4th house—and squaring his Jupiter-Uranus midpoint.
  •  Neptune is currently in a slow, languorous opposition to Bush’s Jupiter-Uranus midpoint. This will continue throughout 2006. Since Neptune is opposing this midpoint from Bush’s 7th house, it is contributing to the slow dissolving of Bush’s public support.
  •  In 1959, transiting Uranus hit this same midpoint. This was the year that George Bush’s father moved the family from Bush’s beloved and wide-open Midland, Texas, to an upper-echelon, swank neighborhood in Houston.

What this means is that solar arc Uranus will probably "jolt" President Bush in the midterm elections.

In addition, solar arc Mars will be exactly squaring Bush’s Ascendant at the time of the midterm election and also starting to square his Mercury-Pluto conjunction. This further indicates that the 2006 midterm election will prove extremely problematic for President Bush.
