Aquarius, Cyber-Communities, and YouTube

Aquarius has to do with the formation of groups and spheres of influence. Like-minded individuals bond together to form a larger whole. With today's mutual reception of Uranus and Neptune we are seeing the influence of communities linked through cyberspace.

MySpace and Facebook are two web portals which link individuals—mostly teenagers and twenty-somethings—in cyber-communities. In MySpace, a widening circle of friends is added to one’s own little web space. The number of friends one has can become a form of competition or status symbol. MySpace also enables users to find preschool friends, make new friends, promote cherished friends, and invite people to become their friends. Hip rock bands have begun releasing new music through MySpace. MySpace is now the fifth most-viewed Internet site in the United States, and participants spend hours navigating its “spaces.” It is such an astonishing social community that Fox recently bought it for over half a billion dollars. This is the powerful mutual reception of Uranus and Neptune as well as the “shared resources” Pluto in Scorpio generation. Add to this the tremendous urge to explore new worlds (cyberspace) brought about by Pluto in Sagittarius.

The Aquarian group phenomenon is not just confined to cyberspace, however. Malcolm Gladwell points out in a recent issue of The New Yorker that the group phenomenon has become a powerful dynamic in many areas of modern culture. Gladwell, who has himself written books (The Tipping Point, Blink) on social transformation, sees group connections and networks as essential ingredients of many of the changes which are swirling through the early 21st Century.

If one want to look far ahead: the next Jupiter-Saturn conjunction will be in Aquarius in 2020 and Pluto will enter Aquarius in 2023. That will be the cultural Age of Aquarius. Group networks will then transform the world in startling new ways. It's not that far away. If you can remember the early 1980's compared to today, you have some idea of the changes awaiting us between now and the early 2020's.
